Falmouth sits at the far end of the Upper Cape, fronting both Vineyard Sound and Buzzards Bay. That exposure means salt air, high water tables in some villages, and freeze-thaw cycles that punish masonry built on a shallow or unprepared base. We build every project here the same way we build on the rest of Cape Cod: excavated deep, compacted properly, and drained before the first stone goes down.
Natural and manufactured stone veneer applied to foundation walls, retaining wall faces, columns, and exterior surfaces. We prep the substrate, use the correct scratch coat, and select materials suited to the coastal environment in Falmouth. View stone veneer installation
Seat walls, garden walls, and retaining walls built on a proper base with drainage behind them. Fieldstone, segmental block, and natural stone, plus repair and rebuild for walls that have shifted or leaned over time. View retaining walls
Paver and bluestone patio installation, outdoor steps, walkways, and cobblestone edging for Falmouth properties. Every surface gets the same excavation and compacted stone base treatment regardless of project size. View patio installation
We build for the Cape Cod climate, not just for the day the job is finished.
One crew for the hard surfaces and the green around them, so the patio, the planting beds and the upkeep are not three different companies blaming each other.

Seat walls, garden walls and structural walls, with the drainage and reinforcement the height calls for.
Retaining Walls
Settlement, open joints and cracked work repointed, reset or rebuilt after we see what the base is doing.
Masonry Repair
Paver and bluestone patios, pool surrounds and driveways over a compacted base that drains.
Patios & Paving
Natural and manufactured veneer on foundations, chimneys, columns and outdoor kitchens.
Stone Veneer
Granite and bluestone steps, landings and entries set on footings that hold through frost heave.
Steps & Stone Entries
Brick and block structures, piers, steps and foundations, laid and pointed for freeze and thaw.
Brick & Block Work
Planting beds, grading, edging and stone work planned together rather than bolted on afterwards.
Landscaping

Leaf and debris clearing, beds cut back to a clean edge, haul-away the same day.
Spring & Fall Cleanups
Site assessment, layout, drainage routing and material selection settled on paper before anything is dug.

These are typical installed ranges for Falmouth and the surrounding Upper Cape towns in 2026. Where a project lands inside a range depends on the conditions we find on site, which is why every number below is followed by the things that actually move it.
| Work | Typical range in Falmouth (2026) | What moves the price |
|---|---|---|
| Stone veneer installation | $15 to $45 per sq ft | Stone type, panel versus individual unit, surface preparation, wall height, and whether existing material has to come off first. |
| Paver patio | $15 to $35 per sq ft | Patio size, paver line, base depth over sandy Upper Cape soil, and access for machinery. |
| Walkway and stone entry | $12 to $28 per sq ft | Length, material, number of curves and steps, and how much grading the run needs. |
| Retaining wall | $15 to $50 per sq ft | Wall height, whether geogrid reinforcement is required, drainage, and excavation depth. |
| Outdoor steps | $150 to $900 per step | Poured concrete at the low end, natural granite at the high end, plus railing and landing work. |
| Concrete masonry | $9 to $18 per sq ft | Slab thickness, reinforcement, finish, and whether existing material has to come out first. |
Ranges are a starting point for planning, not a quote. Sandy soil, salt-air exposure from Vineyard Sound and Buzzards Bay, and proximity to wetlands or either shore can all affect where a project lands. We price the actual project after walking the property.
Wall height, proximity to wetlands, ponds and either shore, and the nature of the work determine whether the Town of Falmouth requires a permit. We check the address at the estimate stage so the answer is in hand before the schedule is set.
Natural stone and fieldstone for walls meant to look as though they belong to the landscape. Segmental block where the grade change is larger and the wall needs to be engineered to carry it. Timber and railroad tie walls typically come to us for replacement rather than repair, because wood has a service life and water finds it.
Crushed stone behind the wall, a base excavated and compacted below frost depth, and a drain that moves water away from the structure. Taller walls and walls holding a loaded slope need geogrid set into the backfill so the wall and the soil behind it behave as one mass. Omitting that step is the reason most walls lean over time.
We identify at the quoting stage whether your address in Falmouth requires town review or Conservation Commission involvement so there are no surprises once work is on the calendar. We are familiar with what those processes require and work within them.
Sandy Upper Cape soil shifts with every wet season, and Falmouth fronts both Vineyard Sound and Buzzards Bay, which means drainage pressure comes from two directions. A patio or retaining wall set on a base that was never excavated and properly compacted shows the problem within a few winters. A repair that only resets the surface puts the same problem back.
Walls that have started to lean or separate at the joint need the base examined before anything is rebuilt. Water with nowhere to go is usually the cause. Full detail on our retaining wall installation work across the Cape.
Settled or cracked patio slabs and heaved pavers trace back to base preparation, not to the stone itself. We address the base first so the surface lasts. See our patio installation and paver and bluestone walkway pages for scope and materials.
Loose or lifted entry steps are a safety issue before they are a cosmetic one. Whether the repair is a reset or a full rebuild is a question we answer at the estimate, not after the crew arrives. More on stone steps and entry work.
The Town of Falmouth is the authority for building permits and for work near wetlands, ponds, or either shoreline. We confirm what is required before the project is scheduled, not after the crew is on-site.
Permit requirements in Falmouth depend on the scope of the work, where the project sits on the lot, and how close it falls to wetlands, ponds or either shoreline. The Town of Falmouth is the authority for building permits and for work near water resources, and masonry projects including stone veneer, retaining walls and patio construction can fall under those requirements.
Falmouth's building department handles permits for construction, reconstruction, alteration and repair of structures. Whether a stone veneer installation, retaining wall or patio entry requires a permit depends on the scope of work, setbacks and where the project sits on the property.
Falmouth fronts Vineyard Sound and Buzzards Bay, and the town has extensive pond and wetland coverage inland. Work near any of those resources can trigger a separate review on top of a standard building permit. We identify proximity issues during the planning stage so nothing is missed.
We address the permit question during the estimate and planning stage. If your project or your address triggers a review requirement, we flag it before work is scheduled so required approvals are in place and there are no surprises once construction begins.
Confirm the permit requirements and any resource-area rules before the project is scheduled, not after the crew is on-site.
Falmouth is the furthest town in our service area, sitting on the Upper Cape where properties can front Vineyard Sound, Buzzards Bay, or inland wetlands and ponds. That variety of shoreline and water exposure means the Town of Falmouth is the authority for building permits and for any work near wetlands, ponds, or either shore. We confirm what is required before a single stone is set.
Stone veneer installation, retaining walls, patios, and entry work can each trigger a permit requirement depending on the scope, the materials, and how close the work sits to a wetland or shoreline resource. The Town of Falmouth reviews and issues those permits. That process is the only review layer for most Falmouth properties, so the path from application to approval is straightforward when the paperwork is complete from the start.
Because Falmouth fronts both Vineyard Sound and Buzzards Bay and contains numerous ponds, many parcels carry wetland or coastal resource boundaries that affect where and how masonry work can be placed. The Town of Falmouth administers those setback rules as part of the permitting process. We identify resource boundaries at the quoting stage so the scope we present reflects what can actually be approved and built.
We check your Falmouth address for permit requirements and any resource area boundaries before we schedule work. If a town permit is needed, we let you know what is required and how it fits into the project timeline so there are no surprises once work is underway.

Natural veneer is quarried stone cut thin. Manufactured veneer is a coloured concrete casting taken from moulds of real stone. Natural costs more, weighs more, and no two pieces repeat, so it reads as stone from any distance. Manufactured is lighter, cheaper, faster to set and comes in repeating shapes, which is visible up close on a long run and in how the colour weathers. Both work on Cape Cod when the wall behind them is right. We quote whichever suits the elevation and the budget, and we tell you which one you are looking at.
Not directly, no. Veneer needs a solid, clean substrate, a weather-resistant barrier, metal lath fixed into sound material, and a scratch coat for the stone to bond to. Straight onto bare block or onto a face that is already spalling, the veneer will come away with whatever it was stuck to. We open up and check what is behind the surface first, because a wall that is holding water or crumbling has to be repaired before anything is faced, and that is the part that decides whether it is still sound in ten winters.
It depends on what is being built and where it sits on the lot. The Town of Falmouth is the authority for building permits and for anything in a wetland buffer, and the answer changes with the height of a wall, its position relative to a boundary, and how close the work is to water. We tell you at the site visit which filings your project needs and who issues them, so the schedule is built around the real answer rather than an assumption.
Often yes. Under the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, work within 100 feet of a wetland resource area sits in the buffer zone and is filed with the local Conservation Commission. Falmouth has Vineyard Sound on the south, Buzzards Bay on the west and a long list of ponds inland, so a great many lots here fall inside that 100 feet. The Town of Falmouth is the authority on what your specific lot needs. We measure the distance before we price the work rather than after.
Yes, and you should. Massachusetts requires residential contractors to carry a Home Improvement Contractor registration, and permitted structural work requires a Construction Supervisor License. Both numbers are searchable through state databases. A legitimate contractor lists them on the written contract before any work begins. We carry our registration numbers on every contract we issue in Falmouth and across the service area. Contact us to Get a Quote.
We work out of South Yarmouth, about 23 miles from Falmouth. Crews leave the yard early, materials travel with them, and nothing sits waiting on a trailer before the work begins at your property.
